SHAH ALAM, Nov 27 — The Greater Klang Valley can become a main economic hub able to compete with bigger cities in Southeast Asia, said state executive councillor for local government and tourism Dato’ Ng Suee Lim.

He said the Greater Klang Valley 2035 Action Plan, which groups the four major cities of Petaling Jaya, Subang Jaya, Shah Alam and Klang, aims to create a high-value metropolis.

“The development of the Greater Klang Valley is on schedule.

“Various initiatives are being planned to coordinate laws and guidelines to ensure the sustainable, planned development of the four cities,” he said in response to a query from Sijangkang assemblyman Dato’ Ahmad Yunus Hairi on the progress of the project during the Selangor State Legislative Assembly sitting here today.

Ng added that a temporary secretariat of the Selangor Greater Klang Valley 2035 (SGKV), through Menteri Besar Selangor (Incorporated), is appointing consultants to prepare a comprehensive development plan that will form the blueprint for the project.

“A marking study and an enactment draft are also underway. Both documents are set to be finalised in the second quarter of 2025.

The SGKV secretariat is “also coordinating inventory processes to identify potential sites to develop high-impact projects”, he said.

The Greater Klang Valley plan was announced under the 2024 Selangor State Budget last year, with an allocation of RM2 million.

Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari reportedly said the project has the potential to become one of Asia’s five main economic corridors.
