PETALING JAYA, Oct 31 — RM67.9 million will be spent annually to collect domestic waste and clean public spaces in Petaling Jaya from tomorrow to October 31, 2032, said Petaling Jaya Mayor Mohamad Zahri Samingon.
He added that KDEB Waste Management (KDEBWM) will divide its operation zones into 59 for domestic waste collection and 88 for public cleansing services, and use 56 compactor lorries, six mini compactors and 88 roll-on, roll-off (RORO) lorries.
“The original contract was from August 1, 2018, to July 31, 2025 … at RM55.27 million per year … the new contract is RM67.9 million a year: an increase of 13.51 per cent.
“This increase is hoped to improve waste collection and public cleansing quality, in line with higher assessment rates in Petaling Jaya,” he said.
Speaking to reporters after a lorry handover ceremony at the Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) headquarters here today, Zahri urged MBPJ and KDEBWM staff to do their best for residents, in line with the taxes residents’ are paying.
“In the last engagement session between MBPJ and residents, the residents were okay with paying the taxes, but wanted the service (quality) of waste collection and cleaning to be improved.
“I am grateful to KDEBWM for preparing new lorries and vehicles that can perform dual roles to improve service efficiency,” Zahri said.
