MB: No snap elections for Selangor

SHAH ALAM, SEP 21: Dato’ Menteri Besar, Dato’ Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali today rejected suggestions that the Selangor State Assembly be dissolved for snap elections.

The Menteri Besar’s Office issued a statement stating that the rakyat’s mandate should be respected.

“The mandate given by voters to the Selangor Government during the 2013 elections must be respected and cannot be set aside for the sake of political considerations,” read the statement issued by the Menteri Besar’s Office Strategic Communications Director Yin Shao Loong.

He said that the redelineation suggestion announced by the Election Commission has to be given a balanced and fair response in order to defend the Federal Constitution and voters’ democratic rights.

Yin said that it was better to work with the Coalition for Fair and Clean Elections (Bersih 2.0) in objecting to the EC’s suggestion.

“Democracy must be defended by the rakyat. Voters must voice their concerns to the EC,” he said.

The redelineation exercise by the EC involves 128 Parliamentary constituencies and can be objected by the state government, local authorities and voters in groups of 100, before October 15.
