SHAH ALAM, Dec 29 — The SELangkah (Step In, Safely) contact tracing system has received a positive response, recording 6.4 million users within the first month it was launched.
Its project director Dr Helmi Zakariah said the users have abided by the standard operating procedure (SOP) which requires the sharing of individual information before entering any premises via the system.
“The public does not need to worry about the data shared on SELangkah as it is a lot safer and less risky than writing the information manually on paper,” he said on Media Selangor’s Bual Bicara talk show last night.
Also present was Selcare Management Sdn Bhd (Selcare) director Muhammad Azfizam Hamzah.
Dr Helmi said the data shared via SELangkah are not permanently stored and is deleted according to the 30-day policy to avoid the information from being abused by irresponsible parties.
“The data is only used for health purposes in the Covid-19 contact tracing process and would then be deleted.
“That is why individuals scanning the SELangkah QR code would have to reenter their information as the previous data are no longer available,” he added.
SELangkah is the first Covid-19 contact tracing system in Malaysia since the movement control order was lifted on May. The system developed by the Selangor Task Force for Covid-19 (STFC) has since been enhanced further to feature inclusivity, such as being able to be used by non-smartphone users.
