SHAH ALAM, March 24 — Indah Water Konsortium (IWK) has upgraded its operational preparedness throughout the festive season to ensure the public sewerage system continues to function efficiently, for the people’s well-being and environmental sustainability.
In a statement, the Energy Transition and Water Transformation Ministry (PETRA) said IWK has performed maintenance on 7,767 sewage treatment plants and 1,564 pumphouses, and effectively managed the 23,550km sewerage network in the peninsula.
It said IWK assets serve around 32 million equivalent persons.
“To ensure operations are at optimal levels, IWK has implemented continuous monitoring, periodic maintenance, site inspections, and immediate fixes in the event of damage,” read the statement.
PETRA said IWK has also strengthened its operations team by adding support staff and using specialised equipment including early warning systems to manage incidents like pipe clogs, pump damage, overflow, and odour issues.
The proactive steps are in line with the federal government’s commitment to maintain the quality of sewerage services, especially to prevent disruptions throughout the festive season, the ministry added.
Members of the public who wish to lodge complaints may contact IWK’s customer service line at 03-2083 2828 or email care@iwk.com.my.
IWK meanwhile said it is committed to helping vulnerable groups with special rebates to customers registered with eKasih.
Up to December 2025, IWK spent over RM1.1 million for sewerage bill rebates, in line with efforts to ensure quality utility services align with continued social commitment.
