SHAH ALAM, March 11 — The Road Transport Department (JPJ) arrested a man and seized a Perodua Alza after he was suspected of offering illegal taxi services at Terminal 1 of Kuala Lumpur International Airport KLIA yesterday.
Selangor JPJ director Azrin Borhan said the action followed surveillance and monitoring by enforcement officers at the terminal area, reported Harian Metro.
The man is believed to have acted as an unlicensed taxi operator, offering transportation services to passengers without a valid licence.
“Initial investigations found the suspect persuaded and offered transport services to three Bangladeshi passengers from Terminal 1 KLIA to the Terminal Bersepadu Selatan TBS in Kuala Lumpur for a fare of RM65, payable upon arrival at the destination,” he said in a statement today.
The Perodua Alza and its driver were detained and seized to assist in further investigations.
Azrin explained that those found guilty could face action under Section 205(1) of the Land Public Transport Act 2010 APAD 2010, which carries a fine of up to RM50,000, a maximum five-year jail term, or both.
He added that anyone aiding such activities could also be prosecuted under Section 243(1) of the same act.
He advised the public to use legal transport services, either via official counters at KLIA Terminals 1 and 2 or by booking through ride-hailing apps.
