Sultan Sharafuddin commends swift police action over mosque theft

SHAH ALAM, March 1 — The Sultan of Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah Alhaj has decreed that individuals found guilty in connection with the recent theft of a mosque donation box in Section 7, Shah Alam, should receive appropriate punishment in accordance with the law.

The Istana Alam Shah said His Royal Highness stressed that firm action is crucial as a reminder and lesson to all parties that any act which tarnishes the sanctity of the house of Allah SWT and betrays the trust of the ummah will not be taken lightly.

“His Royal Highness hopes that this incident will serve as a shared lesson and further strengthen public awareness to safeguard, preserve and defend the dignity of the mosque as a sacred and respected religious institution,” it said in a statement on the Selangor Royal Office Facebook page yesterday.

Sultan Sharafuddin also graciously conveyed his highest appreciation and congratulations to the Selangor police force, particularly to Selangor police chief Shazeli Kahar and Shah Alam district police chief Ramsay Embol.

This followed their swift and effective action in apprehending those responsible for the mosque donation box theft.

The Ruler views the incident seriously, regardless of who was behind it, as the funds collected through the donation box represent the trust of Muslims, derived from the sincere contributions of congregants for welfare purposes, the enlivening of the house of Allah SWT, and assistance to those in need.

“This trust must under no circumstances be betrayed or misused,” emphasised Sultan Sharafuddin.

His Royal Highness is also pleased that the individuals involved were successfully arrested, the result of close cooperation among the police, the mosque committee, and the local congregation's vigilant, responsible members.

This spirit of unity and community concern serves as the primary bulwark in safeguarding the sanctity of the mosque institution.

The Sultan hopes the incident will serve as a collective lesson and continue to strengthen public awareness of the need to protect, preserve, and defend the dignity of the mosque as a sacred and respected religious institution.

On Wednesday (February 28), Shazeli said the police had arrested four suspects believed to be involved in the theft of the donation box at Masjid Kristal Seksyen 7 in the Klang Valley.

The arrests were carried out by a team from the Criminal Investigation Division (D4 and D7) at the Shah Alam district police headquarters, with the cooperation of the Sri Muda police station's Crime Prevention Branch in Section 25, Shah Alam.
