SHAH ALAM, March 21 — The Sultan of Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah Alhaj graciously performed the Hari Raya Aidilfitri sunat prayers with approximately 15,000 congregants at Masjid Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah this morning.
His Royal Highness arrived, dressed in a traditional green baju Melayu, accompanied by the Tengku Permaisuri of Selangor Tengku Permaisuri Norashikin, as well as the Raja Muda of Selangor Tengku Amir Shah.
The royal family's arrival was received by Menteri Besar Dato' Seri Amirudin Shari, together with the state’s administrative leadership.
The Sultan also joined the congregants in reciting the Aidilfitri takbir before performing the sunat prayers, and subsequently listened to the Aidilfitri sermon delivered by the Mufti of Selangor Dato' Anhar Opir, titled 'Syawal Permulaan Baru'.
Among the key messages of the sermon was a call for Muslims to glorify Allah SWT with full faith through the recitation of takbir and tahmid, and to express gratitude for the opportunity to complete the fast during the month of Ramadan.
Muslims were also urged to emulate the patience and trust in Allah (tawakal) demonstrated by the Prophet Muhammad SAW and his companions, and to remain steadfast in facing challenges in upholding the religion of Allah SWT.
In addition, the month of Syawal is described as a new beginning, a return to one’s natural state (fitrah), through continuous strengthening of obedience to Allah SWT.
