SHAH ALAM, Feb 11 — Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said he has taken note of Sultan of Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah Alhaj’s decree on pig farming in the state.
“Yesterday the order was issued, I have received it. We will execute it as best we can,” Amirudin told reporters when met after a ceremony to hand over permits to Ramadan bazaar traders at the MBSA Convention Centre here today.
Yesterday, the Ruler urged the government to issue licences to import pork to meet the demands of the non-Muslim community, especially the Chinese.
According to a statement issued by His Royal Highness’ private secretary Dato’ Mohamad Munir Bani, the move won’t just resolve the pig farming issue, but also make use of existing land for development and settlement.
Sultan Sharafuddin also emphasised that His Royal Highness is displeased by any pig farming in Selangor, over pollution concerns.
“The Selangor Sultan stressed that the pig farming issue be halted and finalised as it is causing unrest among all quarters and affecting the peace and harmony in the Chinese community.
“All quarters are urged to respect His Royal Highness’ decree and preserve the unity and harmony of the state’s community together,” said Munir.
