Hulu Langat residents lodge police report against Glamping with Pride event

SHAH ALAM, Jan 13 — Hulu Langat villagers lodged a police report yesterday objecting to a camping event scheduled for the weekend, alleging it promotes deviant behaviour.

Ikatan Perpaduan Melayu Islam Hulu Langat (Ikatan) chairman Ahmad Fuad Abdul Rahman said the group strongly opposes the Glamping with Pride event and claimed it is insensitive to the district’s Muslim-majority population, the New Straits Times reported.

“This programme not only challenges social norms, but constitutes an open insult to the sanctity of Islam and the dignity of the Malay community, which forms the core of the population in Hulu Langat,” he told a press conference after lodging the report at Batu 18 police station.

Fuad, who is also Kajang Municipal Council (MPKj) Zone 14 councillor, said Ikatan sees the event as an attempt to normalise ideologies that contradict Islamic teachings and is a threat to moral values, especially among youth.

The event, organised by a pro-LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender) group known as Jejaka, is described as a community-based retreat focusing on well-being, peer support, and health awareness.

Fuad called for the event to be cancelled and urged authorities to investigate the organisers and premises owner for possible violations of civil and shariah laws.

“The authorities must issue an official statement banning any programme that promotes LGBT activities, especially in Hulu Langat.”

Yesterday, Sultan of Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah Alhaj ordered firm action against the Glamping With Pride event.

Selangor Islamic Religious Council (Mais) chairman Datuk Salehuddin Saidin and Selangor Mufti Datuk Anhar Opir said the Ruler strongly opposes and firmly objects to deviant LGBT activities in the state.

His Royal Highness also decreed the Selangor Islamic Religious Department (Jais), local authorities, and police closely monitor and take firm action in accordance with the law to ensure such activities are not held.
