Minister: Sg Lui power supply returns to stable levels following TNB works

SHAH ALAM, Feb 6 – The Energy Transition and Water Transformation Ministry (PETRA) has assured that electricity supply in Sungai Lui, Hulu Langat, has returned to normal levels following the completion of short- and long-term system upgrades by Tenaga Nasional Bhd (TNB).

Its minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof said the low voltage issue, which affected some consumers in the area, was mainly caused by unexpected disruptions and tripping incidents on the 11-kilovolt (kV) distribution network.

This limited the ability of alternative backfeed routes to support the full electrical load during repair works.

“PETRA is very concerned about the poor electricity supply in Sungai Lui, especially incidents of low voltage experienced by some users.

“Any issues related to supply quality, including low voltage, are continuously monitored and resolved through technical approaches and appropriate system enhancement projects,” he said in a written Parliamentary reply during the Dewan Rakyat sitting today.

As a short-term measure, TNB has completed the Low Voltage System Enhancement (MSVR) project in Sungai Lui, which is now fully operational, stabilising voltage levels and improving supply reliability.

Meanwhile, for medium and long-term improvements, Fadillah said TNB had also completed a RM3 million upgrade involving the installation and upgrading of 5.5 kilometres of 11kV cables, which was completed in December last year.

“This project aims to strengthen the distribution network, increase load transfer capacity, and reduce the risk of recurring disruptions in the Sungai Lui area,” he said.

Fadhillah was responding to Hulu Langat MP Mohd Sany Hamzan’s query about the forms of assistance and solutions proposed and implemented to address the poor electricity supply in Sungai Lui.

He added that the previously experienced low-voltage incidents were temporary and occurred only during system repair work.

“Following the completion of restoration works, voltage levels have returned to stable conditions and electricity supply in Sungai Lui is now operating as normal,” Fadhillah said.

PETRA will continue to ensure grid infrastructure upgrades are planned and implemented in phases to meet local development needs and guarantee a stable, safe, and reliable electricity supply.
