KPDN to expand eCOSS system to prevent leakage of subsidised cooking oil

KOTA BHARU, July 8 — The Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry (KPDN) will expand the Cooking Oil Price Stabilisation Scheme (eCOSS) system nationwide to prevent the leakage of subsidised packet cooking oil.

Its minister Datuk Armizan Mohd Ali said the system aims to enhance supply monitoring by recording transactions at every level, from refineries to retailers and ultimately to consumers.

“…there are some retailers who act a little unscrupulously, say they receive 10 boxes (of packet cooking oil) a day to sell. They might sell five boxes, then set aside the remaining five for their associates or store them.

"Some even transfer the oil into bottles and sell it at the price of bottled cooking oil. So, like it or not, we must look at risk management and control mechanisms to ensure the available supply is fully recorded and tracked in the system to prevent leakages,” he told the press after officiating the Shell petrol station near Panchor in Pengkalan Chepa today.

Armizan elaborated that purchasing packet cooking oil through the system using the eCOSS application ensures a more transparent and targeted control of the subsidised goods.
