KLANG, May 19 — The state-level celebrations for National Youth Day (HBN) held over the weekend at KSL Esplanade Mall, here, were not only integral in giving youths a leadership platform but also helped to create a regional network for young people through Asean.

President of the Selangor Youth Council (MBS) Datuk Mohd Imran Tamrin said the event welcomed more than 5,000 youths who not only participated in programmes that focused on future careers and Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET), but were also given the chance to learn about networking across the globe.

“We take the opportunity as the chairman of Asean this year to open booths relevant to networking. They become a platform for young people in the region to exchange ideas.

“Those who participated will no doubt shape the social, economic and leadership landscape of the future,” said Mohd Imran during his speech last night.

With the theme ‘Yakin Boleh’ (For Certain We Can), the two-day event also hosted an e-sports competition, cultural shows, a legal clinic and exhibitions from various agencies.

The event’s closing ceremony was officiated by state executive councillor for public health and environment Jamaliah Jamaluddin, who represented Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari.
