Kusel expects utility permit applications to rise by 2025

SHAH ALAM, Oct 26 — The Selangor Utility Corridor (Kusel) anticipates increased state utility permit applications leading up to 2025, in line with the First Selangor Plan (RS-1).

Its managing director, Khairul Azmi Misran, said 1,884 utility asset applications involving telecommunications, electricity, and water were processed as of October 15, the highest number nationwide.

"We expect a significant increase in the coming years, especially in 2025, as Kusel plays a strategic role in the state's five-year development plan.

"This encompasses the Integrated Development Region in South Selangor (Idriss) initiative, the Sabak Bernam Development Area (Sabda) initiative, and the Selangor Maritime Gateway (SMG) project," he told SelangorKini yesterday.

To shoulder this crucial responsibility under RS-1, Kusel has made several preparations, including constructing an underground utility database system to facilitate online access in both new and existing development areas.

Khairul Azmi added they have also organised workshops to refine the working processes with stakeholders to share knowledge and expertise.

"This is an early preparation step for RS-1, aiming to leverage Selangor's utility ecosystem, boost the state's economic development, and ensure the people's well-being," he said.

The state government established Kusel as a facilitator for utility providers in applying for development permits with the local authorities.

The company, a Menteri Besar Selangor (Incorporated) or MBI subsidiary, also provides guidelines for utility facility routes and roadworks.

This is aligned with the goal of making Selangor a Smart State by 2025, providing a conducive environment for the community.
