BENTONG, Aug 23 — The draft for the Genting Highlands-Hulu Selangor Special Area Plan that was launched today will involve the development of 400 acres of land along the borders of Selangor with Pahang.
However, Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said the plan will not touch on forest reserves, water catchments and risky slopes areas.
He said the plan can potentially generate a huge impact on Selangor’s tourism sector with the planned construction of hotels, shopping malls and other developments in the areas.
“The state government has always prioritised environmental sustainability in green and water catchment areas. All these aspects have been taken into account, and we will also listen to the views of stakeholders and other parties of interest.
“The special area plan is in line with the state government’s wish to enhance its existing tourism assets and tourist attractions. This draft is necessary to create sustainable, smart and investor-friendly district development," Amirudin said.
He was speaking at the officiation of the publicity and public participation programme for the Genting Highlands-Hulu Selangor Special Area Plan Draft, at the Geo Resort and Hotel here in Pahang today.
The ceremony was also attended by state executive councillor for local government Ng Sze Han, state executive councillor for tourism Hee Loy Sian and Hulu Selangor Municipal Council (MPHS) president Mohd Hasri Nor Mohd.
The draft, prepared by MPHS and Selangor PLANMalaysia, aims to increase the development potential of land around Genting Highlands which falls under the Hulu Selangor district.
The document will serve as a guideline for the implementation of sustainable development, in order to prevent negative environmental impact.
