SHAH ALAM, February 5 — Nine Selangor FC supporters were charged at the Kuala Terengganu Magistrate’s Court today with obstructing a public servant and possessing flares without permission on February 1.
One of the accused, AlFadli Awaludin, 44, pleaded not guilty to a charge of using insulting words — “takkan mahu bakar suar di dalam hutan, nak suruh beruk tengok ke (why would we set off flares in the jungle; for apes to see?” — against a public servant before magistrate Noor Mazrinie Mahmood, Berita Harian reported.
He was alleged to have committed the offence at about 7pm on February 1 on the Kuala Terengganu Drawbridge.
The offence is punishable under Section 14 of the Minor Offences Act 1955. If convicted, he faces a maximum fine of RM100, in default one month’s jail.
The court offered bail of RM1,000 and set March 5 for the appointment of a lawyer and submission of documents.
The prosecution was led by deputy public prosecutor Nur Anith Nabilah Rusli, while the accused was represented by lawyer Ahmad Nur Faid Afiq Aziz.
In the same court, three others were each fined RM3,000, in default five months’ jail, after pleading guilty to possessing flares without a valid licence.
According to the charge, Muhammad Hafiz Azim Abdul Halim, 25; Muhammad Haiqal Jemerizan, 22; and Mohd Amrin Abdul Halim, 29, committed the offence between 8.45pm and 9.30pm on February 1 at the Kuala Terengganu District Police Headquarters compound.
They committed an offence under Section 8 of the Explosives Act 1957 (Act 207), which provides for up to seven years’ prison, a maximum fine of RM10,000, or both.
Meanwhile, in a separate court, five other Selangor FC supporters were fined between RM2,800 and RM3,200 each, in default four months in jail, for possessing flares.
Magistrate Iffah Nabihah Mohd Ishak handed down the sentence to Muhammad Aliff Aiman Norazman, 23; Syafiq Waliuddin Mohd Anuar, 25; Hamizan Zafri Ahmad Fauzansah, 25; Muhammad Ashraff Azhar Mohd Radzi, 23; and Noor Akmal Danish Noor Azli, 26.
All the accused were charged with possessing flares without valid licences under Section 8 of Act 207.
The prosecution was conducted by deputy public prosecutor Ely Nazihah Ahmad Yunus, while all accused were represented by lawyer Ahmad Nur Faid Afiq Aziz.
