Selangor defeats Kuching City to remain second in Super League

SHAH ALAM, Feb 23 — Selangor FC strengthened their grip on second place in the Super League after defeating Kuching City FC 1-0 last night.

The Red Giants currently have 35 points from 17 matches, with KL City FC trailing by just two points. Meanwhile, Kuching City has 31 points from one game fewer.

With just nine games remaining, Selangor FC head coach Kim Pan-gon reminded his players to remain focused as the competition heats up, particularly in the battle for a slot to compete in Asia.

He said the opportunity to compete in next season’s AFC Champions League 2 (ACL2) is the team’s main motivation, as they remain unbeaten in 10 matches across all competitions since he took charge.

"We talk a lot about our dream to compete in the ACL, and that is the players' main motivation. Not just the coaches, every player wants to compete in the Asian stage.

"This is our big target, because Selangor aims to be a club of international standard that is able to provide challenges at a higher level.

"I see that the players' motivation remains high, and we will continue to fight to the very last minute of the campaign. There is a lot more work to be done, and we remain focused,” Kim said.
