SELKitar collects 77,000kg of recyclables across 400 neighbourhoods

SHAH ALAM, Nov 25 — Selangor Recycling (SELKitar), which was launched in April, has gathered 77,022kg of recyclables as of October 31, said Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari.

He said the figure is set to rise in line with operational optimisation and the expansion of the service to over 400 neighbourhoods.

“From October 1, we are aiming (to include) 200,000 more homes under seven local authorities: Sepang, Kuala Langat, Kuala Selangor, Kajang, Ampang, Selayang, and Hulu Selangor.

“(SELKitar) involves the cooperation of local authorities, KDEB Waste Management (KDEBWM), Nestle Malaysia and Klang WasteCare. Overall, there are 412,812 homes and premises involved in this programme. God willing, next year, we will expand (this programme) to e-waste in all districts,” he said.

He was met after he launched the state-level SELKitar effort by handing over a lorry for the programme to local authority representatives at the State Secretariat Building today.

In April, the state government through KDEBWM signed a deal with Nestle Malaysia to empower recycling with door-to-door collection, forming the basis to an initiative under Budget 2025.

The pilot project was launched in Subang Jaya and Petaling, and expanded on October 1 under all local authorities except for Sabak Bernam, with 21 special lorries.
