Business equipment assistance boosts income of Selangor’s small entrepreneurs

KUALA LANGAT, Nov 23 — For many small entrepreneurs in Selangor, the i-SEED and Poverty Eradication Blueprint programmes are not merely equipment assistance, but a new source of hope to escape hardship and strengthen their family income.

Gombak resident Delwi Muniandy, 57, had relied on an old sewing machine for the past two decades, which frequently broke down. However, this year, her life changed slightly when she received two new machines and recognition under the Icon category.

“I feel so relieved. My work is faster, and customers do not have to wait long. This is my first award after 24 years of running my business,” Delwisaid, moved as she recalled her long journey as a tailor.

A similar story was shared by Rani Sayuti, 28, who started a small barbershop in Puncak Alam. Equipment assistance worth about RM5,000 opened opportunities for him to grow even further.

“Previously, I only had one outlet, and even then, the equipment was insufficient. After receiving the assistance, I was able to open three outlets. Operations are smoother and customers have increased,” said the Kuala Selangor Icon award recipient.

For workshop owner Vicnes Kaniappan, 30, the new equipment he received in 2022 became a turning point.

“Before this, I had to do a lot of manual work because I did not have the right tools. After receiving a compressor and an engine hoist set, work became faster and my income increased from RM2,000 to RM4,000 a month,” he said.

In the catering field, Kanesan Muniandy, 45, also experienced significant changes after receiving equipment worth more than RM10,000.

“Previously, I had to decline orders because I lacked equipment. Now my income has doubled. From RM700, I can now earn up to RM3,000 a month.

"This assistance truly changed my life,” said Kanesan, who was also recognised as an Icon.

All recipients agreed that the assistance from the state government and the state executive councillor for human resources and poverty eradication Papparaidu Veraman not only provided equipment but also renewed confidence to continue their businesses.

In addition to capital and equipment support, the programme offers continuous training and guidance to help entrepreneurs grow sustainably.

49 small entrepreneurs were celebrated through the Blueprint and i-Seed Kita Selangor 2025 Icon Awards at Dataran Pantai Morib in Kuala Langat yesterday, covering the Icon, Production Performance, Excellent Commitment and Dynamic Potential categories.
