SHAH ALAM, Nov 22 — Selangor has officially shouldered responsibilities as host of the Islamic Solidarity Games 2029, during a flag handover ceremony in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, last night.

The symbolic handover was held during the 6th Islamic Solidarity Games closing ceremony at the Puteri Nourah Bint Abdulrahman University Stadium, marking Selangor and the Olympic Council of Malaysia (OCM) as hosts of the 2029 edition.

In a speech at the ceremony, Saudi Arabia Olympic and Paralympic Committee deputy president Prince Fahd bin Jalawi bin Abdul Aziz handed over the Islamic Solidarity Sports Association (ISSA) flag to ISSA president Prince Abdulaziz Bin Turki Al-Faisal, who is Saudi sports minister.

Prince Abdulaziz then handed the flag over to state executive councillor for youth, sports and entrepreneurship Mohd Najwan Halimi and OCM secretary-general Mohd Nasir Ali, confirming Selangor as the official organiser of the 7th Islamic Solidarity Games.

“On behalf of (OCM president) Norza Zakari … we express our appreciation to the ISSA for the trust given to (OCM) and Selangor to organise the 7th Islamic Solidarity Games in 2029,” Nasir said in a post on the OCM website.

He added that the 2029 edition will go down in Malaysia’s Islamic sports movement history.

“We hope to work closely with Selangor and the ISSA to hold another magnificent edition of the Islamic Solidarity Games, made better by Malaysia’s renowned hospitality,” Nasir said.

On November 8, Selangor was chosen to host the Islamic Solidarity Games 2029 by the ISSA, reflecting the world’s confidence in the state’s ability to organise the 57-nation event.
