SHAH ALAM, Nov 19 — The Selangor government is boosting security in schools following the deadly stabbing of a student on October 14.

Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said he attended an engagement session at the Petaling Utama District Education Office today to ensure school safety is improved and the fatal incident doesn’t recur.

“The incident was an important reminder. As state executive councillor for education, I am mindful of the emotional and mental well-being of students at this school,” he said in a Facebook post.

The session involved representatives from the Education Ministry (MOE), Selangor State Education Department, Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), parent-teacher association, and educators to ensure each step goes smoothly and reinforces school safety.

Also present were state executive councillor for public health and environment Jamaliah Jamaluddin, who is also Bandar Utama assemblyman.

The state government has channelled RM17,000 to SMK Bandar Utama Damansara (4), where the stabbing took place, for it to improve its safety.

In October, Amirudin said several security measures for schools would be expedited, including student registration, metal detectors, CCTVs, and smart notifications for parents and teachers.

“Incidents like these cannot be given space to recur and schools must go back to being safe spaces for our children,” he said.
