BATU CAVES, Nov 18 — A car was crushed by falling construction debris from the East Coast Rail Link (ECRL) project along the MRR2 this afternoon.

The woman driving the car was pulled to safety by onlookers.

Selangor Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) assistant director (operations) Ahmad Mukhlis Mukhtar said the agency received an emergency call about the incident in Batu Caves, near the Gombak toll plaza, around 1.47pm.

Seven Selayang Fire and Rescue Station personnel, a Fire Rescue Tender (FRT) and an Emergency Medical Rescue Services (EMRS) unit were deployed to the scene, but the victim had been rescued by members of the public before firefighters arrived.

“The first engine arrived at 2.14pm. The operations commander reported that a structure from the ECRL construction had collapsed onto a Suzuki Swift.

“However, the victim had already been rescued by members of the public,” he said in a statement today.

Mukhlis said no other victims were reported in the incident.

"Further investigations into the cause of the structural collapse will be done by the relevant authorities,” he said.

Meanwhile, operations commander Shahrul Nizam Ramlee said the victim, a local woman in her 40s, did not suffer serious injuries.

Structural safety inspections are currently underway.
