Expanded Smart Rental Scheme benefits 1,361 Selangor families — MB

SHAH ALAM, Nov 17 — Since the Smart Rental Scheme was launched eight years ago, 1,361 low- and middle-income families have benefited from the initiative, said Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari.

He added that the state government allocates funds annually to add housing units under the scheme to ensure more people are aided.

“Since the Smart Rental Scheme was implemented about eight years ago, the state government has allocated a sum annually to add units to ensure supply can meet the demand of recipients, who are of various races and religions,” he said when answering a question from Bukit Gasing assemblyman Rajiv Rishyakaran during the Selangor State Legislative Assembly sitting here today.

“LPHS plans to buy and acquire additional Smart Rental units from the 1,199 existing units to 3,000 by 2027. This will be done via direct unit purchases from developers or through reciprocals from special homes under Idaman and Harapan,” he explained.

Amirudin said that of the 239 participants who have achieved the five-year maximum period, 68 ended their leases as they bought new homes, moved, or finished their leases.

“The remaining 171 participants have extended their leases for the maximum of two more years for their sixth and seventh years.

“This additional lease is permitted under the scheme’s conditions to give opportunities to renters who are still unable to afford their own homes,” Amirudin added.

The Smart Rental Scheme allows non-Rumah Selangorku owners to reside in a safe, comfortable home. Under the initiative, renters are given a minimum two-year lease with returns of over 30 per cent from the net rental amount when their lease ends, while the maximum lease is five years.
