SHAH ALAM, Nov 14 — Students are set to benefit from financial literacy initiatives, with 100 schools to receive allocations for related programmes under the 2026 Selangor Budget.
Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said the initiative was made possible through collaborations with industry partners, adding that financial planning is crucial at every level, from government to families and individuals.
“Through our partnership with EastSpring Investments Bhd, which the Education Ministry recognises, students will receive both physical and online financial literacy modules.
“To ensure the programme’s success, the state has allocated RM500,000,” he said when tabling the budget at the State Legislative Assembly today.
The initiatives are part of its third pillar, with over RM136 million allocated to education in the budget — the highest-ever in Selangor’s history. This marks a RM55 million increase for the sector compared to the 2025 budget.
Amirudin noted that the Selangor School Assistance Programme will also receive its largest allocation since its establishment in 2009, with RM30 million allocated to support students and schools.
The fund will be used to repair and upgrade schools to ensure a conducive learning environment.
He also announced several targeted education initiatives for 2026, focusing on school safety, community empowerment, and technical skill development.
“As an immediate response to recent school misconduct cases, the state will work with Parent-Teacher Associations to strengthen anti-bullying and anti-crime awareness and prevention efforts in schools,” Amirudin said.
It also reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the Indian community via the Indian Community Education Development Programme, which will receive RM2.7 million in 2026, an increase of RM515,000 from this year.
“The allocation includes RM1.2 million for Tamil vernacular school bus subsidies and RM1.5 million for tuition fee assistance for Indian B40 students in public and private institutions,” he said.
Selangor will also continue advancing Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) through the Smart Selangor Technical and Professional Skills Initiative (Iktisass) programme, which is backed by RM20.48 million in funding.
“The initiative aims to equip youth with industry and entrepreneurial skills in line with IR4.0 and the Second Selangor Plan (RS-2), ultimately boosting the supply of high-skilled talent and attracting foreign investment,” said Amirudin.
Meanwhile, the Menteri Besar said the flagship People’s Tuition Programme (PTRS), which continues to show a strong impact, will be further strengthened, including by introducing two new subjects: Physics and Chemistry.
“Digital learning will also be strengthened through ePTRS, which currently offers ebooks, teaching videos, and exam-preparation content. In 2026, the platform will add interactive question banks and performance tracking via the Ulangkaji app,” he said, adding that to support these PTRS improvements, RM3 million has been allocated.
