KUALA LANGAT, Feb 2 — A total of 13 temple associations in the Kuala Langat district have received contributions from the state government via the Special Committee for Buddhist, Christian, Hindu, Sikh, and Taoist Affairs (LIMAS) to support the management of non-Muslim places of worship and to implement local community activities.
State executive councillor for human resources and poverty eradication Papparaidu Veraman said the contributions will hopefully help streamline the management of places of worship and support community activities in a more organised and effective manner.
“I had the opportunity to visit Kuil Arulmigu Sri Subramaniar in Telok Datok, Banting, to personally observe the Thaipusam celebrations, which were marked by orderliness and a strong spirit of togetherness among the local Hindu community.
“The presence of devotees together with their family members enlivened the temple atmosphere in a disciplined manner, reflecting religious values and social harmony,” he said in a Facebook post yesterday.
Papparaidu also expressed his appreciation to the local leaders who attended and joined the celebration, which in turn reflected the spirit of unity, mutual respect, and harmony within Selangor’s multiracial society.
Meanwhile, the state government remains committed to assisting all places of worship without marginalising any community, in line with the principles of religious freedom and social harmony.
Previously, 54 temples across eight districts in Selangor received contributions totalling RM579,000 in the first phase of LIMAS, which were symbolically presented by Menteri Besar Dato' Seri Amirudin Shari, in conjunction with the state-level Thaipusam celebration at the Sri Subramaniar Swamy Temple in Batu Caves yesterday.
He said the LIMAS allocation for non-Muslim places of worship was increased to RM8 million in 2026 compared with RM6 million the previous year, as evidence of the government’s concern for the needs of all communities.
Amirudin emphasised that the state government is responsible for providing support to all citizens regardless of their religious or ethnic background.
Meanwhile, Papparaidu said the distribution of second-phase LIMAS contributions is scheduled for the Chitirai Puthandu celebrations, as part of ongoing efforts to ensure that the needs of non-Muslim communities continue to receive attention.
The 2026 Selangor Budget allocates RM8 million through LIMAS for the reconstruction and restoration of ageing places of worship, as well as for implementing educational and social unity programmes.
58 Hindu temples throughout the state have already undergone the regularisation process.
