KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 11 — Selangor aims to instil interest in technical and vocational education (TVET) among school students by engaging secondary schools next year, expanding on its ongoing efforts to upskill graduates and prepare a new generation of skilled talent.
Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said the state government has, in the past five years, emphasised the importance of upskilling and reskilling its graduates to boost industry-ready talent.
“For the past four, five years, we have been focusing on reskilling and upskilling our graduates, and InsyaAllah (God willing) by next year, we will start to go and try to discuss with our secondary schools to make sure we shift mindsets and skills of our youth and talent in the future to make sure TVET is one of the choices in Selangor and Malaysia,” said Amirudin in his speech at the opening of the Selangor Techsphere Summit 2025, here today.
Amirudin said the summit aligns with the state administration’s long-term goal of developing a future-ready workforce, as they must be equipped with the right skills, knowledge, and mindset to adapt to the rise of automation, robotics, and digital integration in reshaping industries.
“Through the Selangor TVET ecosystem, with our TVET frontliner STDC, and our Iktisass initiatives, we are nurturing a generation of skilled, adaptive, and globally relevant talent,” he said, citing the state agency Selangor Technical Skills Development Centre and the Smart Selangor Technical Skills and Expertise Initiative.
Introduced in 2019, the state initiative is a flagship programme aimed at developing skilled human capital in Selangor to ensure a market-ready workforce that is aligned with industry needs.
Meanwhile, Amirudin also said the summit aims to support Selangor-based businesses in embracing digital manufacturing, adopting sustainable practices, and enhancing their global competitiveness.
“At the heart of Selangor’s industrial strategy is our mission to empower small and medium enterprises and local industries.
“By connecting them with global technologies and expertise, we ensure that every enterprise, regardless of size, benefits from digital transformation,” he said
Amirudin added that knowledge sharing and collaboration with global industry leaders would allow the state to attract more high-value investments in advanced manufacturing, research and development, and emerging technologies, which, in turn, would create new opportunities, strengthen local capabilities, and promote long-term prosperity for the Selangor people.
Also present at the opening ceremony today were Deputy Prime Minister and Energy Transition and Water Transformation Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof, Hannover Fairs Australia and Asia Pacific managing director Tim Bostridge, Menteri Besar Selangor (Incorporated) group chief executive officer Dato’ Saipolyazan M Yusop, and STDC chief executive officer Dr Harizal Hamid.
The Selangor Techsphere Summit 2025 is held at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre for two days starting today.
