SHAH ALAM, Oct 25 — The Selangor government is prepared to face monsoon and disasters such as floods, said state executive councillor for disaster management Mohd Najwan Halimi.
He said local councils and district offices have achieved full readiness, with comprehensive coordination across all levels of the state’s disaster response system.
“This marks the symbolic start of our preparedness phase. At the state level, we are fully ready to respond to any possible disaster, especially floods.
“Preparations were completed earlier, and we are in an active state of readiness. If any incident occurs, which we pray will not happen, we are ready to face it,” he said on the sidelines of the launch of the Selangor Talent in Arts and Entrepreneurship Programme (STEP) at the Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) Shah Alam campus earlier today.
Yesterday, Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari flagged off the Selangor Disaster Management Squad in conjunction with the launch of National Preparedness Month 2025.
He said Selangor is absolutely prepared to handle any disaster or emergency during the monsoon transition, which is expected to last until February next year.
Disaster preparedness measures have been in place since July, involving more than 20 uniformed agencies, including the Malaysian Armed Forces (ATM), Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM), and local authorities under the State Disaster Management Unit.
