KLANG, Oct 16 — Police patrols will be intensified across the state during the Deepavali festive season to prevent crimes like house break-ins and theft, said Selangor police chief Datuk Shazeli Kahar.

All 15,000 officers and personnel statewide will be on duty throughout the period, with leave temporarily frozen to ensure sufficient manpower.

“Police across all districts in Selangor have been instructed to conduct special operations throughout the festive break, to ensure no criminal activities take place, especially house break-ins and theft,” he said.

Shazeli was speaking at a press conference after a walkabout in Little India today, in conjunction with the upcoming Deepavali celebration.

He added that the operations will focus on identified hotspots, based on data and crime pattern analysis.

“We have our focus areas and are not conducting random patrols,” Shazeli said, noting that crime prevention efforts are continuous and not limited to festive periods.

He reminded the public and traders in Little India to stay vigilant during festive shopping activities, so as not to fall victim to snatch thefts or vehicle break-ins.

“Traders are also encouraged to work with the police to ensure a safe environment,” Shazeli said, adding that crime in the area remains under control thanks to community cooperation.

He encouraged the public to use the Volunteer Smartphone Patrol (VSP) mobile app to help police monitor suspicious activities.

“With this application, both the public and police can work together to prevent crime,” Shazeli said.

This year’s Deepavali falls on October 20.
