KLANG, Sept 25 — Awareness of environmental protection needs to be heightened among the community to address the growing challenges of urbanisation and pollution, said Klang Deputy Mayor Mohd Zary Affendi Mohd Arif.
He said good environmental health, including clean air, water quality, and pollution control, directly affects individual health and quality of life, while helping to reduce the incidence of infectious diseases.
“In today’s era of rapid development, we face major challenges affecting environmental health, including urbanisation and uncontrolled development, waste disposal, and plastic waste.
“In addition, climate change issues also contribute to rising temperatures, flash floods, and haze, thereby increasing health risks,” he said at the launch of the Klang Royal City Council (MBDK) Environmental Health Day at Dewan Hamzah here today.
Zary Effendi said all parties, including local communities, the private sector, and local authorities, must work together to ensure a clean, healthy, and safe environment.
He also urged residents to ensure their living areas are free from Aedes mosquito breeding grounds and to practise the 3Rs (reduce waste, reuse, and recycle) in daily life.
The MBDK Environmental Health Day, held in conjunction with World Environmental Health Day observed every September 26, featured a health forum, interactive exhibitions, public awareness talks, and a dengue-free heritage exploration.
