KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 11 — Selangor’s true strength lies not in natural resources but in its quality human capital, which has been the key driver of the state’s development and economic competitiveness.
Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said unlike other states endowed with natural wealth, Selangor relies on its strategic location and its ability to develop talent.
“This is our strength that must be enhanced. Human capital development, (workforce) empowerment and skills upgrading must be among the state’s key strategies.
“That is why the presence of universities, training centres such as the Selangor Technical Development Centre (STDC), and closer collaboration with departments and agencies will be the key drivers of our success and ability to sustain our position as the largest contributor to the national economy,” he said.
Amirudin said this to reporters after delivering his keynote address at the 2026 Selangor State Budget engagement session at the Sime Darby Convention Centre here today.
Earlier in his speech, Amirudin said human capital will continue to drive state development, with a strong focus on education, technical training, and mastery of new skills.
“Next year, we will focus on several aspects of education, including technical and vocational fields, as human capital development will serve as our shield in facing future challenges.
“The education sector as a whole, from primary and secondary levels to higher education, will remain a priority of the state government.”
He added that Selangor will continue to explore new economic opportunities in line with the 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP), including the creative, care and circular economies, to drive value creation and innovation.
“These emerging sectors will be the next growth drivers to sustain Selangor’s momentum as the country’s largest contributor to the (national) gross domestic product (GDP),” Amirudin said.
