SHAH ALAM, Sept 2 — The area around the Cempaka LRT station to the Pandan Indah Food Court is a crime black spot, the target of a Safe City Project.
The Ampang Jaya Municipal Council (MPAJ) in a statement said the project, involving an RM500,000 allocation, is an initiative by the Housing and Local Government Ministry (KPKT) and PLANMalaysia.
“This project is a long-term plan to lower the crime rate, boost public safety, and improve the local community’s quality of life.
“This initiative is also in line with the MPAJ’s commitment to improve the people’s quality of life through infrastructure provisions, community programmes, and inclusive, sustainable safety moves,” read the statement.
Set to be completed in October, the MPAJ said among the main upgrades are the installation of five closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras, repairs to pedestrian walkways, and the installation of five signboards.
It said it would also trim trees, clean drains, and install safety barriers, as well as hold safety campaigns in the area.
“The MPAJ will also consider expanding the Safe City Project to other areas, depending on strategic priorities and funding sources,” the council said.
