ACL Two: Selangor drawn in all-Asean group

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 15 — Last season’s Super League runner-up Selangor FC are set to face regional rivals after being drawn into a group comprising only Southeast Asian clubs in the 2025/26 Asian Football Confederation Champions League Two (ACL Two).

At the draw ceremony today, the Red Giants were placed in Group G alongside Bangkok United of Thailand, Lion City Sailors FC of Singapore and Persib Bandung of Indonesia.

All clubs in Group G hail from the Asean region, thus setting the stage for a balanced competition as they are familiar with each other’s strengths and style of play.

Selangor manager Mahfizul Rusydin hopes the team can progress to the knockout stage to improve on their record of exiting as early as the group stage.

“We are looking forward to a second consecutive participation in the competition and hope we will not exit at the group stage. Our hope is to proceed to the round of 16, where we can meet clubs from the west zone,” he said after the draw.

For the record, Selangor finished third in Group H in last season’s campaign and failed to advance to the knockout stage.

The following are the group stage draw results for the 2025/26 ACL Two:

Group A: Al Wasl (UAE), Esteghlal (Iran), Al Muharraq SC (Bahrain), and Al Wehdat (Jordan).

Group B: Al Ahli SC (Qatar), PFC Andijon (Uzbekistan), FC Arkadag (Turkmenistan), and Al Khaldiya (Bahrain).

Group C: Sepahan SC (Iran), Al Hussein (Jordan), Mohun Bagan Super Giant (India), and Ahal FC (Turkmenistan).

Group D: Al Nassr (Saudi Arabia), Al Zawraa SC (Iraq), FC Istiklol (Tajikistan), and FC Goa (India).

Group E: Beijing FC (China), Macarthur FC (Australia), Tai Po FC (Hong Kong), and Công An Hà Nội (Vietnam).

Group F: Gamba Osaka (Japan), Nam Dinh FC (Vietnam), Ratchaburi FC (Thailand), and Eastern FC (Hong Kong).

Group G: Bangkok United (Thailand), Selangor FC, Lion City Sailors FC (Singapore), and Persib Bandung (Indonesia).

Group H: FC Pohang Steelers (South Korea), BG Pathum United (Thailand), Kaya FC-Iloilo (Philippines), and Tampines Rovers FC (Singapore).
