SHAH ALAM, June 7 — After Kampung Raja Uda residents staged a protest yesterday against the construction of a columbarium near their neighbourhood mosque, Pelabuhan Klang assemblyman Azmizam Zaman Huri today said the proposed site of the memorial building is not zoned for business use.
In a statement on Facebook, he said community representatives had told him that the planning permit application for the columbarium involved Lots 8022, 29148, 29146, and 29147.
“The basis of the objections by residents is that the area is zoned for commercial housing under the Klang Royal City Council (MBDK) local plan until 2035,” he said, adding that checks with the Klang District and Land Office showed the plots were not zoned for business or other activities.
He also said the proposed location for the columbarium is unsuitable as it is too close to the Kampung Raja Uda Mosque.
“When the mosque holds Friday prayers, it will cause congestion on the main road if this (memorial) building is built (as) there will be more people in the area,” he explained.
Azmizam expressed hope that the MBDK considers residents’ views and objections to ensure the comfort of the local community, which has been living in peace thus far.
