SHAH ALAM, April 30 — What started as a drone-building hobby is now a local tech company, OFO Tech, which drives artificial intelligence (AI) use in data management and smart city development.

OFO Tech founder Armi Majid sat down with Media Selangor to share how AI has helped his firm with operational efficiency and realise his vision of making Malaysia a global hi-tech hub.

“We emphasise development using AI to solve problems quicker. We can identify issues such as road damage and act on them faster, and problems in cities can be communicated live,” he said during an interview with Media Selangor recently.

He added that he hopes OFO Tech can be on the front lines to ensure Malaysia is ready to face global challenges.

“We hope to be a ‘unicorn’ (a startup valued at over US$1 billion) in Malaysia as this counter has a wide talent pool and good ecosystem,” he said.

The Selangor government has expressed its commitment to realise AI initiatives, with the development of the AI Incubator Centre and AI Trailblazers programme, with an allocation of RM5 million in the 2025 Selangor State Budget.

The state administration will also submit a white paper on AI on its efforts to up the efficiency of government services, and on the capacity of auditing and assessing AI methods to round out the workforce community.
