KUALA LUMPUR, April 6 — Selangor winger Alvin Fortes’ goal at the end of Selangor’s Super League match against Terengganu FC ensured the Red Giants took all three points at the Petaling Jaya City Council Stadium last night.
Selangor started off the match aggressively as they sought a win, but Terengganu keeper Rahadiazli Rahalim managed to thwart their attack in the opening minutes. An attempt by Terengganu’s Safawi Rasid in the 41st minute was the closest the visitors came to scoring, and the first half ended goalless.
The match seemed to be headed for a draw as both teams failed to capitalise on their attacks during the most of the second half, but in the 88th minute, Selangor got lucky as Fortes connected with a lob from Faisal Halim and delivered a blistering kick that beat Rahadiazli and end the match 1-0 in favour of Selangor.
The win ensured Selangor FC remain second in the league with 49 points while Terengganu is fourth with 32 points.
In the other Super League match tonight between Negeri Sembilan FC and Penang FC at Paroi Stadium, the visitors emerged victorious with a 2-0 victory.
Penang’s two goals came from Rahmat Makasuf in the 13th minute and an 87th-minute penalty by Rafael Vitor.
Penang remains ninth with 23 points after the win, while Negeri Sembilan languishes in second last place with 13 points.
