SHAH ALAM, March 10 — Nine children linked to GISB Holdings Sdn Bhd (GISBH) will remain under the care of the Social Welfare Department (JKM) until they turn 18, following a permanent court order granting them continued protection, Berita Harian reported today.

Women, Family and Community Development Minister Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri said the decision was made as no one, not even their parents, had claimed them.

“As no one has stepped forward to take them in, JKM will assume responsibility for their care until they turn 18,” she said.

Nancy also revealed that out of the 560 children placed under JKM’s care, only 10 remain with the department, with the majority having been reunited with their families.

“One remaining child is still under an interim order, and if the Children’s Court is satisfied, they may be returned to their family. This is subject to a court order issued by the magistrate.

“JKM believes children are safest with their parents, but their financial capability must also be considered. This is to ensure the child’s physical and mental well-being and that they are not neglected,” she said.

Previously, it was reported that 660 children were rescued from GISBH premises, with 560 placed under JKM’s care between September and December last year.

Meanwhile, Nancy said parents who want to reclaim their children must comply with additional conditions under Section 30(8) of the Child Act 2001.

This includes informing the JKM of their residential address, ensuring the children are not subject to abuse or neglect, and guaranteeing they receive formal education.

“Parents or guardians must also attend interactive workshops conducted by JKM psychologists and report to the department every three months for supervision.

“We also do not allow these children to be used for social media content. These conditions are necessary to safeguard their welfare,” she said.
