SHAH ALAM, Feb 5 — Nearly 300 market stall spots around Sri Subramaniam Temple, Batu Caves, have been sold out ahead of Thaipusam.
The Selayang Municipal Council (MPS) corporate department said business permits for general goods, food, beverages, and henna were among the applications most filed (175 applications), followed by barbers and tattoo artists (51), temporary traders (19), and roving traders (10).
The department added that permits were also offered to non-governmental organisations (28 spots) and at a 30 per cent discount to people with disabilities (15 spots), for a total of 298 spots.
“The trading site sale session held at Beringin Hall, Taman Sri Gombak, today went smoothly. MPS will always implement on-site monitoring to ensure all traders adhere to permit conditions.
“Traders are also reminded to ensure cleanliness and the quality of food on sale to prevent untoward incidents such as health-related issues and infectious diseases,” he said in a statement.
Earlier, Transport Minister Anthony Loke said KTM Komuter is free on February 10 and 11 in conjunction with Thaipusam.
The service will run for 24 hours daily from February 9 to 12.
