KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 1 — A woman known as 'Inspector Sheila’ was arrested by police for allegedly causing a disturbance at the Sri Subramaniar Swamy Temple in Batu Caves yesterday.
Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Mohd Khalid Ismail said she was arrested following an argument between the suspect and a personnel on duty at the scene of the incident, which could have caused public disturbance.
The suspect is being investigated under Section 186 of the Penal Code for obstructing a public servant in the discharge of duties and Section 14 of the Minor Offences Act 1955.
"The arrest was made yesterday because of an incident that could have caused a disturbance involving an altercation with traders here.
"We have obtained a one-day remand for the suspect. An investigation paper is being prepared before being referred to the Deputy Public Prosecutor for further action,” he said after the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) 'Thaneer Panthal’ community policing programme at the temple today.
It is understood that 'Sheila' has been suspended from duty since June 23, 2023, after being involved in several other cases, including allegedly insulting police personnel and threatening an elderly woman.
She had previously gone viral on social media several times for allegedly causing disturbances in several places, including eateries, and interfering with police duties.
Meanwhile, regarding security for the Thaipusam celebration, Khalid said that 1,400 personnel have been deployed around Batu Caves under 'Op Palu 2026’.
The January 30 to February 3 operation involves the 24-hour deployment of security personnel to Xones A, B, C, and D.
"We expect 1.4 million to 1.5 million visitors to throng the Batu Caves for this year's Thaipusam celebration. So far, the security situation is under control, with no major incidents reported,” he said.
Khalid added that the security control operation is also assisted by 275 personnel from various other agencies, including the Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department, the Malaysian Red Crescent Society, and the Public Works Department.
