State govt ready to provide schooling aid to GISBH children — Exco

SHAH ALAM, Jan 27 — The state government will provide schooling assistance to approximately 200 children associated with Global Ikhwan Services and Business Holdings (GISBH) in conjunction with the upcoming school term.

State executive councillor for Islamic affairs and innovation Dr Mohammad Fahmi Ngah said the contribution, funded by several sponsors, is a gesture of support for the children, who previously only received informal education.

"There was a request from the Selangor Islamic Religious Council for the 200 children, who had been released earlier, to enrol in national schools.

“(Thus) the state government has agreed to provide schooling assistance to them, just like other children. InsyaAllah, we will supply the aid personally to each child.

“So far, there is no specific allocation, but we have received offers from external donors willing to help. We estimate an amount of around RM200 per child,” he said.

Speaking after the 2025 New Year mandate ceremony today, Fahmi also suggested that the Selangor Zakat Board (LZS) utilise the asnaf riqab funds to assist children rescued from GISBH-owned shelters.

“We will provide this allowance every month to ensure they attend rehabilitation programmes. If we give it as a one-off payment, we fear they might not attend these programmes if called,” he said.

Last week, the Sultan of Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah Alhaj instructed LZS to channel asnaf riqab allocations towards the rehabilitation process of GISBH group members.
