SHAH ALAM, Jan 24 – The Selangor Islamic Religious Department (Jais) will use profiling to monitor children rescued from GISB Holdings Sdn Bhd (GISBH) premises, who have been returned to their families.

Its director Dato’ Mohd Shahzihan Ahmad said the system lets the department track the children’s movements while facilitating interaction between them and monitoring teams.

“This approach helps us understand their whereabouts and interact with them, and lets us collaborate with groups responsible for their guidance and rehabilitation.

“With profiling, we can keep them in our radar while mobilising efforts to reintegrate them to adapt to society,” he said during an interview with Media Selangor after the launch of Menara Zakat Sultan Idris Shah here yesterday.

Previously, state executive councillor for women empowerment and welfare Anfaal Saari reported that 41 children rescued from GISBH last year were returned to their families under a Shah Alam Magistrates’ Court directive.

“All the children were returned to their parents under the condition of an RM500 non-collateral bond.

“If they comply with the stipulated conditions for a year or until they turn 18, they need not pay the bond,” she said in a video on social media.

Anfaal said the state government will continue monitoring the children to ensure they receive proper care.

“We hope these children will be nurtured with love and care. The Social Welfare Department (JKM) will maintain its efforts to ensure they are adequately protected,” she added.

Meanwhile, JKM previously indicated its intention to seek court approval to extend custody of some GISBH children as their interim protection orders are set to expire at the end of this month.

Shahzihan said around 60 members had voluntarily joined the rehabilitation programme conducted by the Selangor Islamic Religious Council.

“They have been placed in a specific location, but rehabilitation must continue within the community.

“The modules are ready for implementation, and rehabilitation will take place at mosques, surau, and Jais schools,” he said.

On September 10 last year, police raided 20 GISBH premises across Selangor and Negeri Sembilan under Op Global on suspicion of human trafficking and other offences.

A total of 402 children, aged one to 17, were rescued during the operation, believed to have been victims of exploitation, neglect, and abuse.
