SHAH ALAM, Nov 10 — Selangor’s capital is set to develop more tourist hotspots next year in line with the Shah Alam City Council’s (MBSA) tourism action plan.

MBSA community development director Shahrin Ahmad said his office is awaiting the full report on the plan, prepared by Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) after a study last month.

“UiTM, through its Hotel and Tourism Faculty, held focus group discussions involving various public and private agencies and non-governmental organisations.

“All parties involved suggested many ideas to spur the city’s tourism (industry). The aim is to release new tourism products and improve existing ones,” he said when met at the MBSA Car-Free Day at the Shah Alam Independence Square here today.

He said the report is expected by year end.

“UiTM is studying all perspectives before it crafts policies and plans. We are confident this effort will help the state government make Visit Selangor Year (TMS) 2025 a success,” he added.

Last month, 100 participants joined focus group discussions, assessments and profiling in relation to Shah Alam’s tourist destinations.

In conjunction with TMS2025, the state government has undertaken many initiatives including advertising on digital and social media, and organising tourism events, roadshows and exhibitions.

TMS2025, which has 60 events in store for next year, is set to draw eight million domestic and international tourists, with a receipt collection target of RM11.7 billion.
