Kota Kemuning rep urges solution to recurring floods

By Siti Rohaizah Zainal

SHAH ALAM, June 22 — Kota Kemuning assemblyman S. Preakas today said he will meet with Shah Alam City Council (MBSA) and Irrigation and Drainage Department (JPS) representatives to hear updates on flood mitigation projects in his constituency.

He said a water catchment pool must be built soon to prevent recurring floods.

“The proposal to build a catchment pool to divert water from the Shah Alam Expressway from Bukit Kemuning was approved early last month as a short-term move to prevent floods.

“But till today, there has been no action from the authorities. We want to know the latest updates and … hold a meeting with the MBSA and JPS as soon as possible.

“There must be immediate action because now when it rains for even less than an hour, several areas become inundated. Until when must the people bear this burden and losses?” he said when speaking to Media Selangor.

Recently, continuous heavy rain inundated low-lying areas in Shah Alam and Klang, including Jalan Kebun and Kota Kemuning.

Over 100 Kota Kemuning residents were evacuated to the Dewan Aster temporary relief centre.

Among the flooded areas are Taman Bukit Kemuning, Taman Greenville, and lot residences around Bukit Kemuning. However, all residents were allowed to go home yesterday.

Preakas also asked the state government to update details on disaster fund allocations for flood victims, especially those in Sri Muda.

“Those affected by flash floods were supposed to receive disaster aid from the state government, but still haven’t gotten anything now, nearly three months on.

“I hope there is immediate action to lighten the burden of residents, who have experienced much property damage,” Preakas said.
