KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 16 — Taman Melawati, where a landslide occurred yesterday, is one of 114 high-risk sites for landslides in Ampang Jaya.

Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said: “If we look at the soil structure, this area (Taman Melawati) is situated on limestone.

“From Hulu Klang to Batu Caves, this area has a long stretch of limestone, and when water flows through it for months, the risk of landslides increases,” he told a press conference after inspecting the landslide site on Jalan E6, Taman Melawati here today.

The landslide occurred around 10.30am yesterday after heavy rain, forcing residents to evacuate.

Four houses and one car were affected by the landslide, with no casualties reported.

Amirudin, who is also Gombak MP, added that authorities have identified landslide-prone areas and have employed precautionary measures.

In another development, Amirudin reminded residents, especially those in coastal areas of Selangor, to prepare for the high-tide phenomenon, which is expected to start Friday.
