SHAH ALAM, Dec 30 — The Ampang Jaya Municipal Council (MPAJ) has reaffirmed its commitment to monitoring slopes within its jurisdiction to prevent landslides and safeguard residents.

Council president Ani Ahmad said the council’s proactive measures include issuing reminders for developers to uphold safety protocols at their construction sites.

“MPAJ regularly monitors slopes to prevent landslides and ensure the safety of residents.

“We have also issued notices to all developers, urging them to consistently monitor and implement safety measures at their development sites,” she told Media Selangor.

Addressing the landslide that occurred in October along Jalan E6, Taman Melawati, Ani said drainage maintenance in the affected area, which was identified as the cause of the disaster, was completed on November 14.

“Additionally, tree-clearing work on the landslide-prone slope was finished on October 20. A notice has been issued to landowner Elite Informix Sdn Bhd to conduct slope maintenance,” she said.

Previously, Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari revealed the landslide along Jalan E6 was one of 114 high-risk locations (red zones) in Ampang Jaya.

He added that around 400 other locations in the municipality had been identified as orange zones, of moderate risk.

The October landslide, triggered after heavy rain, forced the evacuation of 20 households in Taman Melawati.

Four houses and a car were damaged in the incident, but no injuries were reported.
