SHAH ALAM, Aug 1 — The state government is organising a medical tourism exhibition, MHExpo, in Surabaya, Indonesia, from today until Sunday (August 4).
Menteri Besar Dato' Seri Amirudin Shari said the expo, conducted by Tourism Selangor in collaboration with the Malaysia Healthcare Travel Council (MHTC), aims to promote Selangor as a state with the best healthcare services.
It will see 11 hospitals participate in the exhibition, including Avisena Specialist Hospital, KPJ Healthcare Berhad, Sunway Medical Centre, MSU Medical Centre, and Subang Jaya Medical Centre.
“Studies have found that many residents of Surabaya come to Malaysia for treatment but go to Penang and Melaka.
“Selangor must seize this opportunity as it has over 50 hospitals and medical centres offering specialised treatments including obstetrics and gynaecology, gastroenterology, and infectious diseases, as well as having specialist doctors,” he said today.
Earlier, Amirudin officiated the exhibition, themed ‘Liburan Sehat, Ya di Selangor Aja,’ held at Tunjangan 6, Surabaya. Also present was the state executive councillor for tourism Dato' Ng Suee Lim.
He added that the campaign is also an effort to promote Visit Selangor Year 2025, which targets the arrival of eight million tourists next year.
“We are confident that tourists from Indonesia will receive hospitality with the best facilities throughout their stay in Selangor.
“This is evidenced by the 62.5 per cent increase in the number of Indonesian tourists last year, totalling 168,000 compared to 103,000 tourists the previous year,” Amirudin said.
