SHAH ALAM, Feb 3 — Tourism Selangor aims to promote the medical tourism segment this year, to turn the state into a preferred destination for visitors.

Its corporate communication unit said with 20 private hospitals in Selangor, this makes the state the highest in the country and recognised as such by the Malaysian Healthcare Travel Council (MHTC).

Meanwhile, Selangor's northern region will also be actively promoted through community-based tourism initiatives like the Selangor Community Host and the agrotourism sector.

"The Sabak Bernam Development Area (Sabda) will also be applied more vigorously to stimulate the state economy and empower local communities," Tourism Selangor said in a statement yesterday.

The agency will expand its overseas sales mission for targeted markets, including to the Internationale Tourismus-Börse Berlin in Germany and the Seoul International Travel Fair 2024 in South Korea.

Based on Selangor's success in recording the highest domestic visitor numbers in 2021 and 2022, it is optimistic about continuous tourist growth for the next year.

"The 'Pusing Selangor Dulu!' campaign, which focuses on the domestic market, will showcase various tourist attractions through interactive roadshows in schools and selected states," Tourism Selangor said.

It also emphasised the unique tourism segmentation by organising over 100 events throughout the state's districts which explore their cultural richness and heritage values.

Tourism Selangor also expects the Gombak-Hulu Langat Geopark to be recognised by the United Nations' Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organisation.

"The Gombak Quartz Ridge is also expected to reopen to the public by late 2024," it said.

The state government is aiming to attract 5.6 million domestic and international visitors this year via various tourism promotions.
