GOMBAK, July 16 — A Selangor Saring participant said he attended the free health screening programme as he wants to be as healthy as Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

Kung Eng Tiong, 49, said he admires the former prime minister who is still energetic despite being nearly 100 years old.

“Today is my first time at this programme, I decided to come after a friend shared a Selangor Saring poster with me on a WhatsApp group.

“I usually attend health screenings at other facilities twice a year. It is important to care for your health from now on so that when you’re old, you can be as healthy as Tun M,” he said.

He was one of over 200 participants of the Selangor Saring programme at Dewan Orang Ramai Kampung Melayu Wira Damai here on Sunday.

Visitor Ahmad Firman Mukhni, 26, said he took the chance to attend the programme as the Selangor government offers it for free.

“I like getting a health checkup at least once a year. Even though I am still young, disease knows no age and we must still take preventive steps,” he said.

Senior citizen R. Mahendran, 74, for whom it was his first time at Selangor Saring, arrived at 8am with his friend, excited to undergo a health checkup.

“It is important to get health screenings, especially for those who are old like me. Thank you, Selangor government, for organising such a programme as this. I hope it is held more often,” he said.

In tabling the Selangor Budget 2024, Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari announced an allocation of RM3.2 million to continue free health screenings.

The next Selangor Saring will be held on Saturday at Dewan Serbaguna Kampung Kuantan, Batu Tiga.
