SHAH ALAM, June 3 — A blue-coloured contamination found in Sungai Kandisis is believed to have flowed from another area to the Bukit Kemuning Industrial Park in Section 34, here.
According to state executive councillor for the environment Jamaliah Jamaluddin, initial investigations suggested that the activity had occurred at night to avoid detection by the authorities.
She said the industrial area in Section 34 includes small and medium-sized industries involved in metal-based activities, welding, warehousing, and packaging and does not produce industrial effluent.
“During the inspection, the investigation team from the Selangor Environment Department (DOE) traced the blue-coloured water upstream for approximately 7 kilometres and found a bushy area containing blue-coloured liquid.
“According to preliminary investigations and the traces discovered at the scene, it is most likely that irresponsible parties brought the blue liquid from somewhere else and dumped it in the area,” she stated in a statement.
Jamaliah said the blue-coloured liquid appeared to be paint waste combined with an oily layer, and two samples have been sent to the Chemistry Department for analysis.
She said the investigation is being conducted under Section 25(1) of the Environmental Quality Act 1974, which provides for a fine of up to RM100,000 or imprisonment of up to five years, or both.
“We urge members of the public with information regarding the incident to assist the DOE in its investigation to apprehend and prosecute the environmental violators,” she added.

Yesterday, it was reported that the Selangor Water Management Authority (Luas) opened an investigation following the discovery of a flow of blue-coloured liquid found in Sungai Kandis the day before.
Luas stated that the suspected source in the industrial area of Jalan Omboh, here, is the result of blue paint disposal.
