SHAH ALAM, Aug 11 — The Langat 2 water treatment plant (WTP) resumed its operations this evening after it was temporarily shut down due to a pollution incident caused by an oil spillage from a highway traffic accident.
Pengurusan Air Selangor Sdn Bhd said the operations resumed at 7:30pm, with the water beginning its distribution in stages to consumers.
"The water will return in stages to all 397 affected areas in three Air Selangor regions, namely Petaling (3 areas), Kuala Lumpur (172 areas) and Hulu Langat.
"The duration of the water supply recovery in the affected areas will vary depending on the location and distance of consumers’ premises. The supply in all affected areas is expected to fully recover by 8pm tomorrow," it said in a statement.
Air Selangor said alternative assistance through water tankers will continue to be mobilised to consumers, with priority given to critical premises.
The accident yesterday occurred along KM75.9 of the Karak - Bentong Highway, where the oil spillage flowed into the nearby Sungai Semantan in Karak, Pahang, which also adversely affected Sungai Langat in Selangor.
