SHAH ALAM, Dec 11 — Significant progress has been made in overhauling Taman Sri Muda's drainage system, with completion now at 87 per cent and full completion anticipated by the end of January next year.

Kota Kemuning state assemblyman S. Preakas said the RM6.8 million initiative, which commenced in early July 2021, is primarily aimed at mitigating the area's persistent flooding challenges.

"The original implementation period for this project was 24 months, starting from July 1, 2021, to July 1, 2023. However, the project has been extended until January 24 due to several constraints.

“Factors including stringent movement control orders and the severe floods in December 2021, which inflicted damage to the construction site and caused delays in securing a 'compact sub' power supply approval from Tenaga Nasional Berhad, contributed to this extension,’’ he said when contacted.

The project's primary components include embankment reinforcement, screw pump installation, construction of quarters, a 'compact sub', and electrical works as a means to alleviate flooding in the area.

Additionally, Preakas said several other projects to address the same issue are being carried out by the Shah Alam City Council.

These projects include constructing a pump house at Persiaran Aman, currently 95 per cent complete, and in Jalan Saksama 25/39 and Jalan Khidmat 25/35, now 80 per cent complete.

"Other ongoing works include upgrading the culvert and drainage ditches in areas such as Jalan Gemilang 25/1 and Jalan Abadi 25/58," he said.
